The character of Green Beret "John Rambo" was developed by the Canadian author David Morrell, and his story was translated to the screen with Stallone playing the leading role as the lead character in First Blood (1982), with Richard Crenna and Brian Dennehy. The film became a surprising success that divided audiences due to of its satire on the Vietnam war, which was still somewhat fresh in the American populace's mind. What ever political beliefs, Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) was immediately a success. The movie received more criticism from a variety of sources due to its plot about American MIAs getting detained in Vietnam. They insist, however, that the film's bad press does not occur. John Rambo's sequel resulted in a significant revenue-maker for Stallone. The film affirmed his position as one of America's top male celebrities of 1980s. Stallone enjoyed a rise in fame and acclaim, calling Rocky Balboa his old sparring with partner. He returned to the ring in order to ensure American pride against a Soviet threat, a Russian-born boxer who was dubbed Ivan Drago (played by curt Dolph Ludgren in Rocky IV (1985). The fourth film "Rocky" movie was not a hit, it caused controversy among "Rocky" movie buffs because of its excessive violence, particularly when compared with previous movies. The evidence is clear when you consider the horrific beating Apollo Creed (played by Carl Weathers) suffered at the brutality of the "Siberian Express".
